Possibly the biggest game of the last ten years, Wingspan has single-handedly added countless more people to the board game hobby. Whether its the gorgeous artwork that is unique to each card, the satisfaction of building your player board into a point-generating machine, or just the feel of those glorious little plastic eggs, Wingspan seems to have something for everyone. Sticking with the nature and wildlife theme, Cascadia focuses on the majestic animals of the Pacific Northwest and their habitats. This one is a token drafting and puzzly tile-laying game that challenges players to create the most harmonious ecosystem by putting together habitats and placing wildlife tiles upon them.
In the game, players take turns building out their own terrain area and populating it with wildlife. Each player begins with three hexagonal habitat tiles (there are five types of habitat in the game), and on their turn choose a new habitat tile that's paired with a wildlife token, they then place that tile next to their other ones and place the wildlife token on an appropriate habitat. (Each tile shows 1-3 types of wildlife from the five types in the game, but only one tile can be placed on each habitat.) Four tiles are on display, with each tile paired at random with a wildlife token, so you must make the best of what's available — unless you have a nature token to spend so that you can pick your choice of each item.
The goal is to place tiles and habitats so that the number of points earned is maximized. Points are score in a variety of interesting ways that change each game, through random wildlife goals for each animal drawn at the beginning of the game. Maybe hawks want to be at least two spaces from other hawks, while foxes want many different animals around them and bears want to be in pairs. Can you make it work?

If building a tableau is one of the aspects of Wingspan that you enjoy the most, Underwater Cities may be the game for you. This game has some great tableau building but also includes a heaping spoonful of worker placement thrown in. This one takes a bit longer than Wingspan to play, but is as much, if not more, rewarding.
Card placement is the main principle of the game. Three colored cards are placed along the edge of the main game board into 3 x 5 slots, which are also coloured. Players want to place cards into slots of the same colour. Then they can take both advantages and actions: the action depicted in the slot on the main board and also the advantage of that card. Actions and advantages let players intake raw materials; which they can use to build and upgrade city domes, tunnels and production buildings such as farms, laboratories, and desalination devices in their personal underwater area; to move their marker on the initiative track (which is important for player order in the next turn); to activate the player's "A-cards"; and to collect cards, both basic and special ones that allow for better decision possibilities during gameplay.

Building off of the nature and animal theme of Wingspan, Meadow is a relaxing game that has players taking a journey into nature as they collect cards to become a true nature observer. If you love the beautiful artwork of Wingspan, you will love Meadow.
Meadow is an engaging hand management and set collection game containing over two hundred unique cards featuring hand-painted watercolor illustrations. During the game you take turns placing path tokens on one of the two boards. Placing a token on the main board lets you get cards, but playing them there requires that certain requirements are met. If the token is played on the bonfire board, special actions are activated (which helps to implement a chosen strategy) and gives the opportunity to accomplish goals that provide additional points. As the game goes on, players will collect cards in their meadow and surrounding area, building their tableau of cards. At the end, the player with the most points on their cards and on the bonfire board wins the game.

A more simplified engine-builder than Wingspan, Splendor is a modern strategy classic. Players are gem merchants in the renaissance, trying to buy the best goods using their collection of five different types of gems. All players are vying for a specific number of victory points.
On their turn, players can (1) collect gems, or (2) buy and build a card, or (3) reserve one card. If a player chooses to collect gems, they can take three different kinds of gems, or two gems of the same kind. If buying a card, players pay its price in gems and add it to their table area. To reserve a card, protecting it from someone else taking it, a player can place it face down in front of them for later building; this will costs them a round, but they will get gold in the form of a joker chip/gem, which functions as a wild gem.
All of the cards players buy increases their wealth as they give a gem bonus on all later buys; some of the cards also provide players with prestige points. To win the game, a player must be the first one to obtain 15 prestige points.
