  • Help Phil perfect his day in a fun, cooperative family game.
  • Fast-paced play generates silent excitement for everyone around the table.
  • Memorable movie scenes are highlighted through quotes on all 60 cards.

Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps

Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps Board Game Setup

Many gamers were excited when Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps was announced. This new release from Gale Force Nine is a co-op survival board game, in the same family as game like Descent, Doom and other dungeon crawlers. You and your team of specialist Colonial Marines will gear up with some serious firepower and head into Hadley's Hope, looking for survivors and answers. But (as usual) you're not alone. To survive, you'll need to work together, keep calm, and stay frosty to fight off relentless Xenomorph ambushes, attacks and get out of there alive.

If that wasn't enough this game comes with some amazing minis. The minis!

GAMES REVISITED

These games aren't new releases but have been gaining popularity this month for a variety of reasons. Resurgence in popularity? Game going out of print? New expansion being released? New edition of the game coming out? All of the above? The stories behind why these games are gaining buzz this month are always interesting. Here's this month's crop of noteworthy games that are getting some extra chatter this month and why.

Detective: City of Angels

Detective: City of Angels

Sometimes games pop up on the radar against based solely on their merit. Detective: City of Angels is one of those games. With a solid BGG score of 8.0, this murder mystery board game has formed a strong fan base that has only grown with two solid expansion releases to date.

Detective: City of Angels uses an innovative ARC (Adaptive Response Card) System that does an amazing job of creating the feel of interrogating a suspect in real life. Instead of giving paragraph-book responses, suspects The Chisel mechanism carefully chooses how they will respond.

The art and setting of this game are also a big plus, you really feel like you are solving a case in 1940's LA, or in the middle of a classic film-noir movie. This one is a great experience to play solo, or cooperatively with your family or a group of friends.

War of the Ring: Second Edition

War of the Ring (Second Edition) Board Game

War of the Ring: Second Edition is no stranger to lists (especially Top 10s), but it has been out for quite some time. Originally released in 2012, there has been a jump in interest for the game this month as the War of the Ring Online Java League announced the new tournament season would be starting fairly soon. If you love War of the Ring and haven't participated in a league like this before, we'd encourage you to check it out, they are tremendous fun and add a new twist on how to play games with others. For more details on the league announcement click here.

If you haven't played War of the Ring yet, what are you waiting for!? This one is a wargame classic. One of our favourite 'dudes on a map' games out there. The theme is strong and doesn't feel tacked on, the battles are epic (and we mean epic). It is on the heavier side strategy-wise so you're in for a few hours of orc smashing fun, this one doesn't wrap up in 30 or 60 minutes.
